Today begins the Purim festival, that is celebrated to honour the miraculous rescue of Jews in Persia from destruction in V cent. BCE. One of the main traditions of the festival is wearing masks and dressing up in costumes, which in early XX c. meant organizing a carnival, sometimes not connected to the plot of Book of Esther.
