Lecture: The Trauma of Totalitarianism in Baltic Prose
Lecture about Literary Representations of Deportations and the Holocaust in Latvian and Lithuanian Literature and presentation of the monograph "The Trauma of Totalitarianism in Baltic Prose" will take place on December 18, 2020 at 6 p.m.
Zanda Gutmane's research is an innovative elaboration to the Baltic Literary studies. So far there have been separate studies on the representation of Stalinist repression in literature and separate studies on the traumas left by Nazism, but the comparative study of the experience of both regimes has not been conducted or appeared only occasionally in the context of Baltic history and literature. Such a complex approach helps to understand how the same historical events echo in documentary and fictional texts, how the emergence or absence of such representations is influenced by the dominant ideology that literary representations have on the formation of historical memory and cultural trauma.
The entrance is free.
