The museum, “Jews in Latvia”, systematically gathers any of memoirs about Jewish history – life stories, professional work, and political activities, as well as the social life and memories about participation in the Latvian War for Independence. An important part of the collection is the memoirs and testimonies about the Holocaust in Latvia. Mostly, these are memoirs of the survivors, however the museum also attempts to acquire the memoirs of the rescuers of the Jews and their rescued ones. The collection includes the originals of well known holocaust survivor’s memoirs, like Valentīna Freimane, Elmārs Rivošs and Dr. Edward Anders. The content of these memoirs were later partly included in the publications by the mentioned authors. Likewise an important source within the museum collection is the reports about the Holocaust from the survivors and memoirs by the Jews from other European countries deported to Latvia during the Holocaust.
