Jewish Folk Music Concert by the Marc Crofts Klezmer Ensemble (Switzerland)
During the Night of Museums, May 17 at 9.00 PM, Jewish music concert by the Marc Crofts Klezmer Ensemble (Switzerland) will take place at the Museum “Jews in Latvia” (Skolas Street 6, Riga).
The Marc Crofts Klezmer Ensemble performs little-known traditional Jewish music in a modern arrangement. The group consists of musicians from Switzerland, France, Poland and Bulgaria, and each of them brings their own unique experience to the music. The works interact with jazz and classical music, Ukrainian and Turkish motifs. The band’s founder, violinist and composer Mark Crofts, has developed a personal playing style that has been shaped by playing Balkan and Eastern music, studying jazz and classical music, and a deep family connection to Jewish traditional klezmer music.
During the concert, the musicians will perform repertoire from the newly released album “Urban Myths”, which are new arrangements of old, forgotten klezmer tunes. The album has come out in spring 2025 on historic French label Frémeaux & Associés, and the band is touring internationally, with a release party at the mahJ (Musée d’Art et d’Histoire du Judaïsme) in Paris.
