Marking Latvia’s National Holocaust Victims Commemoration Day, on Tuesday, July 4th, at 14:00, everybody is welcome to attend and event at Rumbas iela 44:
Mazjumpravas muiža/Jungfernhof 1941-1944: how to research and how to commemorate?
In these years in Mazjumpravas muiža was located KZ Jungfernhof concentration camp, where almost 4 thousand Jews from Germany and Austria were imprisoned. Most of them died or where murdered within few months. The event will feature contributions:
– Director of the museum “Jews in Latvia” Ilya Lensky – on history and visible remnants of the camp
– Prof. Philip Reeder, Duquesne University (Pennsylvania, USA) – on how modern technologies overlap with humanities, and how these help to uncover the history of Jungfenhof camp
– Prof. Karen Frostig, Lesley University/Brandeis University (Massachussets, USA) – on how she discovered the story of her grandparents, who perished in Jungfernhof, and on different approaches to commemoration of the victims of the camp, and possible upcoming memorial

The event is aimed at broad audience and does not require any specific skills.
