Meeting with Prof. Philipp Kornreich on November 6, 2025

On November 6, at 17:30, the Embassy of Austria to Latvia and the Museum “Jews in Latvia” have a pleasure to invite to a meeting with Prof.Ing.Emerit. Dr. Philipp Kornreich.

Prof. Kornreich was born in 1931 in Vienna, and after the occupation of Austria by the Nazis in 1938 together with his family came to Riga, among ca. 2300 other Austrian and German Jewish refugees, who were allowed to enter Latvia – one of the few countries in entire world that agreed to receive them. The Kornreichs stayed in Latvia, and with the beginning of Nazi invasion managed to escape to Kazakhstan, where they stayed until the end of World War II. In 1946 they were repatriated to Austria, and later moved to the US, where Philipp Kornreich for many decades was a professor at Syracuse University.

In conversation with director of the museum Prof. Kornreich will tell about his memories of time spent in Riga, and his further fate before emigration to the US.

The event will be held in English.

The entrance is free, everybody is welcome!

Sincerely,

Museum “Jews in Latvia”
