Presentation of Margers Vestermanis’ book “Humanity Was Not Dead After All”

We invite you to the presentation of Dr.hist.hc. Marģers Vestermanis’ book “Humanity Was Not Dead After All” (2025) and a meeting with the author on November 30, 2025, at 4:00 p.m., in Riga, Skolas Street 6, in the premises of the museum “Jews in Latvia”.

The anniversary of the first killing campaign of Riga ghetto prisoners is traditionally marked on November 30. This year we are marking it not only with a memorial event in Rumbula Forest at 12:00 p.m., but also with the presentation of the book of our museum’s founder, the patriarch of Latvian Holocaust history research, Margers Vestermanis.

This year, Mr. Vestermanis celebrated his 100th anniversary, and in honour of this, a book was published, to which he devoted several decades. The book “Humanity Was Not Dead After All” talks about the phenomenon of Jewish rescue in Nazi-occupied Latvia. Mr. Vestermanis studies not only the biographies of the rescuers – he talks about their motivation, about the Jews’ escape as a prerequisite for rescue, but most importantly – about the moods of Latvian society, which formed the background for the murder and rescue of Jews.

The event will also be attended by the book’s co-author Jolanta Treile and the book’s reviewer Kaspars Zellis.

There will also be an opportunity to purchase the book during the event.

Free admission, everyone is welcome!
