Theater NN (Lyublín) performance “Tales from the Gates”

On April 6, at 6.00 PM, the Riga Jewish Community House (Skolas Street 6) will host the performance of the NN Theatre (Lublin) “Tales from the Gates” based on the works of Isaac Bashevis Singer and Jewish folklore motifs. The performance will be in Polish with Latvian and English subtitles.

“Tales from the Gate” is a production by the NN Theatre, created in the storytelling convention. An actor, accompanied by a musician, narrates stories connected to a unique place in Lublin – the Grodzka Gate. Before World War II, this gate served as a passage between the Christian and Jewish parts of the city. Today, it is home to the “Grodzka Gate – NN Theatre” Centre.

Without set design or props, relying solely on storytelling and music, the performers transport the audience to the vanished world of the Jewish shtetl. The literary material is drawn from the stories of Nobel laureate Isaac Bashevis Singer and Jewish legends from Lublin. The performance is enriched with Yiddish songs and live original music performed on the accordion.
