\We kindly invite you to the opening of the exhibition “Priede un Kartupeļi” by the Swedish artist Hannah Gordon
Thursday, May 8th 16.00 – 18.00 at the Museum “Jews in Latvia”, 6 Skolas str., Riga, Latvia.
Priede un kartupeļi presents a body of work consisting of sculptures and hand-made prints, created between Latvia and Sweden.
Through her work, the artist reflects on her Baltic Jewish heritage, exploring themes of memory, identity and belonging.
The horrific and abrupt rupture the Holocaust caused in Gordon’s connection with the Baltics has shaped her urge to search for fragments — traces of life that still linger, tied to the life that once was; life in the cultivated Baltic soil, and in the treetops reaching toward the blue hue of twilight.—
The artist will be present at the opening to share the journey behind the works. Clarinetist Rafaels Mednis will contribute a brief musical interlude, performing two Jewish folk songs. Drinks and refreshments will accompany the evening.
“Priede un kartupeļi” would not have been possible without the encouragement and wealth of historical knowledgment provided by the museum “Jews in Latvia”.
FREE ADMISSION
The opening of the exhibition has been made possible through the generous support of The Embassy of Sweden, Riga.
