Presentation of the book “Ex-champion. Mikhail Tal” by Andris Tikhomirovs

On Saturday, November 8, at 4:00 p.m., the presentation of the book “Ex-champion. Mikhail Tal” by historian Andris Tihomirovs will take place at the museum “Jews in Latvia”, Skolas Street 6.

The book is a biographical story about the eighth world chess champion, Mikhail Tal (1936-1992) from Riga. It is based mainly on the memories of people who knew Tal personally, from works written about Tal, his own publications and other materials.

The book is the result of the true passion and five years of work of chess player, chess coach and historian Andris Tihomirovs. The film “Mikhail Tal. Twenty Years Later” (1980), directed by Ansis Epners, will be shown during the presentation.

The event is held as part of the VIII World Champion in Chess (1960) and I World Champion in Blitz (1988) Mikhail Tal (09.11.1936 – 28.06.1992) chess memorial tournament. The tournament is organized by the Latvian Jewish Community and the Latvian Chess Federation.
